Derek partnered with Portland innovation agency, dot dot dash, to create this B2B learning platform that combined a digital board game and a series of Masterclass-esque learning lessons. This platform was built from the ground up, leaning into TikTok's branding and extending it to fit within the board game as playing elements.

Upon Derek's first meeting with the dot dot dash team to discuss this project, they identified the primary creative challenge: even though the creative wrapper of the learning series was a digital board game, it needed to be purely additive. Although gamification can be fun, the game play couldn’t be a barrier to the audience's ability or desire to complete the lessons. The client’s mandate was to create a content package that educated its subscribers. Derek and the team couldn’t lose track of the ask in the flash.
Establishing these guardrails from the onset was crucial in defining the creative sandbox that the team had to play within. The team leaned into the TikTok branding and extended it in the creation of new assets that were used across the UI of the platform, within the true-to-life set built from the ground up in the NYC TikTok offices, and across the graphics and animation package in the edit.
With the creative and UI wrapping determined, Derek led the team of filmmakers to create a neon-based lighting design, bouncy animation, a snazzy sound effects package, and a nifty editing style that seamlessly integrated into the platform.
