Milliman Brand Anthem

Derek partnered with Milliman, a global actuary and consulting firm that helps clients tackle tough challenges in healthcare, insurance, and finance. With a friendly, expert team, they offer smart solutions to manage risk, improve systems, and build a more secure future, to create their flagship video to launch alongside their rebrand.  

Finding Clarity and Practicing Patience

When a company is highly technical, decentralized in its structure, and offers a wide range of services—all of which are difficult to explain in the time it takes to make a cup of coffee—creating a 90-second brand can present some challenges.

 

While working with Milliman's in-house creative and marketing team, Derek spent months pitching a variety of ideas, ranging from documenting visual installations to fully scripted videos featuring actors and sets. Ultimately, we backed ourselves into a corner and we didn't have enough time to execute anything too complex. The tried-and-true, voiceover-driven piece with elevated motion design became our only viable option.

Derek brought on a team of designers and animators to bring the concept to life. Each shape used in the animation has a specific meaning to the Milliman brand, and we strictly adhered to the design principles outlined in their new guidelines—all while incorporating footage to illustrate the human impact of Milliman's vast impact across the globe. Kinetic and layered, the piece resonated well, earning praise from executives, the board, and actuaries across the firm.
